About Me – Your Local Pest Controller in Portsmouth

I’m born and bred in Portsmouth, and after spending over 30 years working as a piping engineer in the oil and gas energy sector, I decided it was time for a change. I wanted something more local, more hands-on and more personal — something where the work I do directly helps people in my own community. That’s what led me to Pestforce.

I’m backed by the knowledge, training and reputation of the Pestforce network, which has been running for more than 17 years. So, you get the best of both worlds: a local lad who cares about doing a proper job, supported by a nationwide team who know this industry inside out.

Outside of work, I like to keep active. I’m a keen cyclist, I hit the gym regularly, and I’m a big Pompey fan. When I’m not working out or watching the match, you’ll usually find me reading, listening to music, heading to gigs or just socialising with mates. And at home, I’ve got one cat — Lottie — who absolutely rules the house.

As a one-man operator, I’m proud to offer the kind of service I’d want if I were the customer. I turn up when I say I will, I’m honest about what needs doing, and I make sure the job is done properly the first time. No call centres, no passing you around — it’s just you and me from start to finish. You can rely on me to get things sorted safely, professionally and with a friendly, straightforward approach.

Portsmouth Rat Control

Rats are a regular nuisance in Portsmouth, especially in older homes and buildings with easy access to lofts, cellars, and drains. If you're hearing scratching at night or spotting droppings, give me a ring.

Our standard rat treatment includes:

  • A full internal and external inspection of the property (where accessible).
  • A targeted treatment using traps and/or rodenticide in tamper-resistant positions (usually locked boxes)
  • 3 Treatment / visits – 1) Set up visit, 2) follow up, check activity and make adjusts as required – 3) final check-up and remove equipment and product. (Following the inspection the technician will advise if additional visits could be required and if there will be any additional charges)
  • Basic proofing where practical (for example, sealing small holes accessible on the visit).
  • Advice on how to reduce the risk of future infestations.

Any larger proofing or repair work (for example, air-brick covers, building works or drain investigations) is not included and will be quoted separately.

We aim to achieve full control within the visit package to your satisfaction, but customers are advised that rats can exploit building defects and drains, plus other external factors outside our control (i.e. neighbouring properties and surroundings), and therefore we cannot guarantee a new infestation in the future.

Portsmouth Mouse Control

Mice can squeeze through tiny gaps and often nest in warm, hidden areas like kitchen units or airing cupboards. Signs include droppings, chewed packaging, and scratching sounds.

Our standard mice treatment includes:

  • A full inspection of affected areas to identify entry points and harbourage.
  • A targeted treatment using traps and/or rodenticide in tamper-resistant positions (usually locked boxes)
  • Up to 3 Treatment / visits – 1) Set up visit, 2) follow up, check activity and make adjusts as required – 3) final check-up and remove equipment and product. (additional visits may be required and may be chargeable)
  • Basic proofing where practical (for example, sealing small holes accessible on the visit).
  • Advice on how to reduce the risk of future infestations.

Any larger proofing or repair work (for example, air-brick covers, major building works or drain investigations) is not included and will be quoted separately.

We aim to achieve full control within the visit package to your satisfaction, but customers are advised that mice can exploit building defects, plus other external factors outside our control (i.e. neighbouring properties and surroundings), and therefore we cannot guarantee a new infestation in the future.

Portsmouth Wasp Nest Removal

Wasps are most active during summer and often build nests in sheds, lofts, roof spaces and wall cavities. If you’ve noticed a sudden increase in wasp activity, it’s best not to try tackling it yourself.

Our standard wasp treatment includes:

  • Identification of the wasp nest and safe access assessment.
  • A professional insecticidal treatment directly into the nest or entry point.
  • The nest will normally become inactive within a few hours, with full activity stopping within 3-4 days.
  • If we are unable to directly access the nest, then an additional visit may be required. Any additional costs will be explained before treatment.
  • Following completion of treatment (up to 2 visits) if the treated nest remains active, we will return Free of Charge
  • Safety advice will be given following the treatment

Additional nests found on the same visit can be treated at an additional cost (cost will be dependent on location and number of nests). High-level nest removal may require additional equipment and cost.

Ant Control in Portsmouth

Ants can be a persistent problem across Portsmouth, especially in kitchens and conservatories. They’re often drawn in through tiny cracks and can return repeatedly if the nest isn’t treated properly.

Our standard / typical ant treatment includes:

  • A survey of the affected areas to confirm ant activity and confirm species.
  • An insecticidal gel bait will be placed in foraging paths, as required to treat the infestation. If the treatment is effective the activity will stop after 24-48 hours.
  • A residual insecticide spray is not usually required

A single treatment is usually sufficient, however if we are unable to access (find) the nest or, establish sufficient baiting points then there are occasions where the activity could continue. In such cases a second visit may be required at an additional cost.

Flea Treatment in Portsmouth

Fleas are often brought into homes across Portsmouth by pets, visitors, or from previous occupants. They cause itching and irritation and can spread quickly.

Our standard / typical flea treatment includes:

  • A survey of the affected areas to confirm flea activity. (note - if flea activity is not found, non-toxic monitoring can be installed)
  • Upon confirmation of activity, A residual insecticidal spray treatment to floors, skirting boards and other key harbourage areas throughout the affected rooms.
  • Advice on preparation (such as vacuuming, decluttering and laundering bedding) and aftercare.

A single treatment is usually sufficient, but a second visit may be required at an additional or discounted cost if activity continues after the settling period.

Any treated area must be vacated until the insecticide is dry. The technician will advise.

Pets must be treated with a suitable flea product via a vet or pharmacist – this is not included in our service. Because flea eggs can hatch over time and pets can re-introduce fleas, no guarantee is given, but we will advise you on how to minimise the risk of recurrence.

Bed Bug Treatment in Portsmouth

If you’re waking up with bites or finding blood spots on the sheets, bed bugs could be the cause. They’re becoming increasingly common in Portsmouth and can spread easily.

Our bed bug treatment typically includes:

  • A detailed inspection of bedrooms and surrounding areas to identify bed bug activity. If bed bug activity is not found, non-toxic monitoring can be installed
  • On confirmation of activity, a professional treatment using insecticidal applications to beds, furniture and other harbourage points, use of heat may be used in some cases
  • Two to three visits as standard – the initial treatment and a follow-up visit after approximately 14 days to check for and treat any remaining activity. A third visit, if required, will determine success.
  • Advice on preparation (stripping beds, bagging and washing/drying fabrics, reducing clutter) and aftercare.

Severe or long-standing infestations may require additional visits, which will be quoted separately. Due to the nature of bed bugs and the risk of re-introduction (for example, via luggage or visitors), no ongoing guarantee is given, but we will work with you through the agreed visit programme to bring the infestation under control.

Squirrel Control in Portsmouth

Grey squirrels can get into lofts and cause serious damage to insulation, timber, and electrical wiring. They’re also noisy and disruptive.

I humanely trap and remove squirrels, then help you prevent re-entry by checking for gaps, broken tiles, and overhanging trees. I’ll also offer long-term deterrent advice.

Bird Control in Portsmouth

Pigeons and gulls often nest on rooftops and leave behind mess and noise. Their droppings are not only unsightly but also hazardous.

I offer bird proofing solutions like netting, spikes, and visual deterrents to stop birds roosting on your property. Clean-up and ongoing prevention advice also available.

Pestforce Portsmouth we asked by a management company to eradicate rats from a refuse area at a block of 5 flats in Southsea. Our pest control technician completed a survey and determined that a normal rat treatment would be ineffective. This was due to the poor condition of the rat-gnawed doors, and the large amount of rubbish decaying in the adjoining property, where the rats were originating from. The technician advised the management company that proofing the refuse area first and highlighting the rubbish problem to the adjoining property was the first course of action. Treating the cause of the problem is sometimes better than reacting to the problem.
